Airbag Assembly Line

MACHINE NO. 5891

Consists of at least one each of a NUTDRIVER WORKSTATION, CUSHION FOLD WORKSTATION, and a COVER PRESS WORKSTATION. The Nutdriver station consists of a fixture for manually loading a bracket with inflater and airbag attached to it and a nut driver to drive a retaining nut to a prescribed torque. The Cushion Fold station consists of a folding rack to manually load, and automatically fold the bag in a prescribed manner. The Cover Press station consists of a nest into which a decorative cover is placed and a folded bracket-inflator-bag assembly is manually placed into the cover. The cover flaps are manually folded into position and retaining tabs on the bracket are bent into place by a press. Part tracking is accomplished at each workstation by reading a bar code label prior to performing the function of the particular workstation. Parts are manually offloaded at all workstations.

MACHINE CONTROL – A solid state programmable controller operates the sequence with an easily accessible control panel including Main Power, Emergency Stop, Manual, Automatic, and Individual Operations controls.

CONSTRUCTION – Heavy duty welded and powder coated tubular frame with adjustable levelers. Materials and finishes used are appropriate for the work environment. This machine is designed to allow the operator full visual contact with all components being processed and easy access for routine maintenance.

SAFETY – Meets OSHA Safety Standards. Safety-sensitive areas of this machine are enclosed and accessed through interlocked doors which stop the machine when opened. Emergency Stop controls are provided which stop the machine when activated.

MACHINE NO. 6040

Consists of at least one each of a NUTDRIVER WORKSTATION and a CUSHION RETAINER WORKSTATION. The Nutdriver station consists of a fixture for manually loading a bracket with inflater attached and locator pins for positioning 3 springs. After loading bracket and springs a mask and press are lowered to seat and compress the springs and 4 nuts are manually started onto studs. Nuts are driven manually with a pneumatic nut driver to a prescribed torque and the fixture is rotated under the nut driver until all nuts have been tightened. The Cushion Retainer station consists of an upper spindle and a lower nest for mounting the base plate and retaining ring. The base plate is mounted into the upper spindle and the retaining ring is mounted in the lower nest and the airbag cushion is mounted between the two, resting on the retaining ring with locking tabs protruding through the cushion. The base plate is lowered over the locking tabs and an upper ring press lowers and bends the tabs over the top of the base plate.
